Training

Training the doctors of tomorrow

We are proud to able to tell you that we have been accredited to be allowed to train the country’s future doctors. These are fully qualified doctors who have been working for some time in hospitals, and have decided that they would like a career in Family Medicine. This is a specialist branch of medicine which has knowledge and skills of its own, and we have been assessed as being able to provide this training. Drs Northern and Thompson are the main trainers, but we all take turns in the teaching, and the trainee doctors, known as Registrars, have centralised ongoing tuition in Postgraduate centres as well.

The Registrars are constantly in touch with another doctor in the practice, and will be quickly assimilated into the workforce of the practice. They will have longer to see patients, and have access to all the facilities in the hospital as well. From time to time they will be encouraged to make video recordings of a consultation, but only after seeking the permission of the patient, and this is kept secure and confidential, and destroyed after a year. You will not be pressurised into being part of this.

The Registrar doctors usually stay with the practice for a year, after which they will find a practice of their own, and quite a few of the local doctors have been Registrars here, including our own Dr Nolan. If you have any concerns about the training, please speak to one of the partners.
