Child Health & Immunisations

Child Health Surveillance

The doctor carries out developmental checks at six weeks and three years. The Health Visitor also performs checks at eight weeks, eighteen months and three and a half years.

Immunisations

An immunisation clinic is held on a regular basis at the Oakengates and Hadley surgeries. We are keen to immunise all our young patients at the surgery. The Shropshire Health Authority computer will send you a reminder when your baby’s immunisations are due. You should then come to the surgery. Baby’s first injection is due at eight weeks and should coincide with the development assessment.

It is important that all children are protected against preventable diseases, especially whooping cough and measles. If in doubt, please contact the practice nurse or doctor for further advice.

Influenza

Each winter we run an active campaign of influenza immunisation. This service is primarily aimed at people who are especially at risk if they develop influenza. This includes the elderly, people with chronic chest problems, diabetics and people with reduced immunity. If you feel you are at risk, but are not in one of these groups, please feel free to come and discuss the matter with the doctor or nurse.
